The greater Yellowstone's location the the convergence of the Great Plains, Great Basin, and the Plateau of as many of 27 American Indian tribes, have had a connection to it's land and resources for thousands of years prior to it being designated as a national park. The name of the Yellowstone originated with the Minnetares Indians with their expression for the Yellowstone River - or Yellow Rock River.

This painting depicts the majestic canyon and it's 308' Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River, a tributary of the Missouri river, that runs for 671 miles.
